Schilderen is voor mij een zoektocht naar de wereld in mijzelf. Visuele prikkels zijn overal, die absorbeer ik. En in mijn brein worden die beelden werelden op zich. Juist die verwrongen werkelijkheid, die schilder ik, vervlochten met de emoties van dat moment.
In mij is de drang om te schilderen groot. Soms, als door omstandigheden de tijd ontbreekt, word ik ongedurig en beïnvloedt het gebrek aan schilderen mijn stemming. Als ik schilder, verlies ik mezelf en vergeet ik de wereld om mij heen. Ik vind dat heerlijk, zo opgaan in het werk wat tot stand komt door mijn eigen handen. Dan gebeurt er iets prachtigs, glijden de penseel streken vanzelf en ontstaat er iets moois. Maar soms is schilderen ook een worsteling. Dan kan ik zo zat zijn van mijn werk dat ik ervan walg en alles weer over kwast.
En dan komt er een moment dat ik klaar ben met schilderen, dat het werk af is. Ik heb altijd hoop dat de toeschouwer iets herkent in mijn werk. Als dat gebeurt, raak ik zelf geroerd. Dat mijn werk een verbinding met een ander brengt, daar geniet ik intens van.
